Support Vermont House Bill H.742
02.02.2026
VT house bill H.742 is designed to make ICE trafficking harder in Vermont by ensuring access to legal representation in federal immigration proceedings. Yes, you read that correctly. Not everyone imprisoned by the VT Department of Corrections is entitled to due process. You can read more about the bill here: H.742 bill status.
What we are asking you to do is email the House Committee on Judiciary, and demand that they advance this bill ASAP. Just yesterday two more people were smuggled from Vermont to Texas and Louisiana. Every day counts! Legal intervention via groups like VAAP works extremely well, it's simply not possible to reach everyone in prison at the rate ICE is sneaking people through. ICE is sending people to Vermont specifically because they are harder to find using the DHS ICE Locator and the VT Department of Corrections is helping them break the law. There is no requirement that detainees are arrested with a warrant, or have been transferred here legally. They are not even entitled to phone calls. VT politicians have the power to stop this.
Please include the following emails in your message. With so much happening in Montpelier, we need these legislators to hear us!
